BCL June Board Meeting Notes

The Bellevue Community League board met for a regular meeting on June 9, there were 24 people in attendance. Here are a few highlights from reports the board received from various stakeholders:


  • Front yards in bloom – Deadline for nominations for this year is the end of June.

  • Northlands shared details about K-Days, and also let us know that some events (Color Me Rad) have been redirected to other venues.

  • DECSA’s annual pancake breakfast will be held on Wed, July 8th from 7:30-10:30am at 11515 71 Street.

  • Porkapalooza is a very large barbecue competition and festival to be held in Borden Park, more information can be found at porkapalooza.ca.

  • The Leagues Alive conference will be held on Saturday, November 21 at MacEwan’s Robbins Centre.

  • The proposed pilot with Paul Sadler Swimland at Eastglen Pool this September will not be occurring, pending further community consultation.

  • The Historical Mural Project Committee expects to reveal the new hall mural in September.

  • Bellevue Community League Day will be held on Sept 13.


A few notable board decisions were made at this meeting:


  • The BCL agreed to support the Abundant Community Initiative, lead by Greg Brandenbarg (brandkrink@yahoo.com) and Elizabeth Metcalfe (bellevueconnector@gmail.com).

  • Parking for KDays will be increased to $15 this year (Northlands has increased their parking rate to $16). Jeff Nachtigall and Geoff Lilge will be organizing volunteers.

  • The board created a new subcommittee called the Bellevue Social Club. The BSC will organize and host activities such as pub nights, movie nights, music nights, etc, for all members of the league. The BSC hopes to enhance the Centennial Lounge and improve access.(Check out The Bellevue Social Club on Facebook and Twitter)

  • The board authorized Erin Armstrong to gather all required information and proceed with the casino application process.

  • Board meetings will now be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm, starting July 14.
